Demonstration Garden at Park Shadelands

Why Native Plants?

  • Did you know 95% of songbirds only feed their young caterpillars and larvae?

  • These insects can generally only survive on native plants. Insects have evolved with plants in order to be able to digest their protective chemicals.

  • Most horticulture plants sold in nonnative nurseries are popular because insects do NOT eat them.

  • Help feed our birds by planting native plants!
