How to Help Pollinators and Birds

  • Plant natives

    • 95% of baby song birds can only digest soft larvae & 90% of all insects have evolved to eat 1-2 plants

  • Trim the dead stalks only in the spring                 

    • Bee habitat

  • No plastic ground cover

    • Inhibits native bee homes

  • Leave the leaves

    • Allows for caterpillar hibernation and nighttime escape

  • Avoid mulch >3 inches

    • Can smother caterpillars

    • Removes caterpillar habitat

  • Provide habitat under native trees

    • Soft landing for caterpillars, ½ the width of the branches leave alone or plant natives.

  • Plant native milkweed,

    • To prevent the death of the emerging Monarch butterflies
